Building Permits

Building Permits:

The Minnesota State Building Code, with State Amendments, is enforced by the City of Lauderdale via its contracted Building Official, Andy Schreder of Rum River Construction Consultants.

Building permits are required for all types of improvements, additions, and remodeling done to your home. Building permit application must include legible construction drawings, which demonstrate the proposed project complies with the requirements of the building code and a lot diagram showing all features of the property.  Please call Rum River Construction Consultants at 763-331-7722 with questions on the permit process.  Completed permit applications can be emailed to permits@rumrivercc.com.  Email inspections@rumrivercc.com to request an inspection time.  Construction started without a permit will be billed an investigation fee

The following require permits (this is not a comprehensive list):

  • Any work that affects a building's structure (additions);
  • Any project involving electrical, plumbing, or heating systems;
  • Constructing decks, new bathrooms, new garages, or finishing basements;
  • Installing new windows, roofing, siding or underground lawn irrigation;
  • Installing new electrical receptacles, replacing furnaces or water heaters;
  • Demolition of buildings.
